The Endorsement: Slow Cookers

The utility and genius of the slow cooker is a lesson I’m not the first to convey.  Books have been written, recipes shared, even a poem or two composed (probably), singing the praises of the crock pot.

Wonderfully delicious food can be prepared easily!  Set it and forget it! (sorry Ronco) Feed a crowd!  Clean up is a snap!  Shall I compare thee to a winter’s day….

There’s no need to embellish on the wonder of a slow cooker.

But I do want to highlight the healthfulness of the food this marvel produces.  Soups, stews, chilis, roasted chicken, savory vegetables, pulled pork, and more are cooked healthfully in a little under half a day.

The slow heat allows the flavors to mingle to perfection.  The result is healthy food that doesn’t need the usual sauces or cheese covering to be monumentally appetizing.  Remember, eating healthfully shouldn’t be a drag.

And, the contents of a crock pot can provide healthy meals for days.  A deliciously healthy dinner can beget a belly shrinking lunch.  Like the Jelly-of-the-Month club, a slow cooker is a gift that keeps on giving.

  1. I love my crockpot. It’s an excellent way to cook a healthy meal when you don’t have time. It’s already ready when you get home from work! *And that means less temptation to just get take-out!

    • It’s absolutely genius! Really, the only drawback is that “takes 6-8 hours to cook” thing. But, that forces you to plan. And planning your meals is the first habit to adopt to build a better diet!
