About the Blog

The purpose of this blog is to discuss nutrition, diet, and wellness in a way that is unimposing and moderately fun.  In my view, eating healthy is something we’re all learning as we go.  No matter what credentials we carry.

I firmly believe there is no “magical” way to eat.  In fact, I’m convinced I know the proper way to diet.  Eat minimally processed food.  Simple as that.  I love the idea of “the shorter the ingredient list, the better”.  I’m not perfect in this regard, but I’m trying.

To that end I’ve developed my way of figuring out what’s best to eat.  My Eat by Stars initiative ranks each food into 5 categories from best to worst.  It’s oversimplified.  To me, that’s the idea.  Keep it simple.  Keep it easy. I’d rather spend my time thinking of sports and how to keep my wife happy.  Or, rather, how to keep my wife happy so I can watch sports.

I’m also a big advocate for vitamins, antioxidants, and supplementation.  You’ll see regular bits on that.

I also support agricultural reform.  Meaning, I eat organic and regularly visit local farmer’s markets.  Mind you, I’m a hypocrite.  I don’t always eat locally or
organic.  But I do my best.  And probably get there 60-70% of the time.

I’m into fitness and cooking too.  There’s a wonderful world of cooking I discover more about every day.  And being active is a big part of my life.

In essence, the goal of this blog is to present current notions on nutrition (and wellness) in a way that’s easy to understand and entertaining.  Simply, the Essentials of Nutrition.

  1. Hey! Love the post. I really like how you stated the shorter the ingredient list, the better. If we think about it, it is so much that people put in nearly everything. It’s crazy but, that’s how it is. I feel people need to educate themselves and know what is going on with the foods they eat and stop going with everything they hear.

  2. Hi,
What I like best about Applebee’s Nutrition chain is their willingness to share their calorie chart with their customers or as it is called, their ‘Nutritional Information’.
